Following up our song series in Psalms, we’re staying within a framework of hymns to shape our Christmas readings as well.
We study the same Christmas Scriptures each year, and repeating them may feel like a repeated song’s refrain. Hopefully it’s comforting and nostalgic rather than rote. At the same time, we always find new ways of applying Scripture as the timeless message of Jesus is always living and active.
Hold on tight because today we’re going to connect themes from a famous Mariah Carey Christmas song all the way back to an ancient hymn of prophecy in the Old Testament book of Isaiah. As we return forward in time, our trajectory will take us past 2 more Christmas compositions through the centuries.
Scripture: We'll be in Isaiah 9 with stops in Matthew 4 and Luke 4.
