We've come to the end of our study, friends. For these first 21 weeks of 2025, we've studied all 21 chapters of John, reading through the ministry of Jesus. We end on John 17, and the entire chapter is a prayer from Jesus.

As we read, we will also pray for the things Jesus prayed for: glorifying the name of Yahweh, finding joy in ministering to others, and uniting as followers of Jesus. We hope you will be able to join this special time of worship on Sunday.

In person we will be doing some activities together at prayer stations. We’d like you to join us. Here are some items you can do at home to participate:

Prayer activity 1—The name of Yahweh:

Pray for yourself and for us as a church to reveal the name of Yahweh with our actions. Pray that the Spirit would demonstrate Jesus’ love through us in our communities, in our city, in this world.

“I made your name known to them—yes, and I will make it known; so that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them.” (prayer from Jesus in John 17:26)

Prayer activity 2—Joy:

Pray for your capacity to experience Jesus’ joy as you serve others, as you live like Jesus in the day to day, ups and downs. Pray for Echo’s staff and volunteer leaders to sense Jesus’ joy as they shepherd the church, showing up for others, making decisions. Pray for our entire church community to remain living in the light of Jesus’ joy, even in dark times.

“I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.” (prayer from Jesus in John 17:13)

To represent your prayers of joy, we invite you to make an origami butterfly. Click here to find step-by-step instructions and a QR code leading to a video demonstration.

Prayer activity 3—Unity:

Pray that in our divided world, we would find unity. Pray for us to remain united as Echo Church. Pray for all people who have faith in Jesus.

“I am praying that they may all be one—just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they too may be in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me.” (prayer from Jesus in John 17:21)

To depict your prayers for unity, gather several bricks of Lego and build a small structure. As you build, pray and commit yourself to the effort to be one with others, just as Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus.

Prayer activity 4—Communion:

If you have crackers or bread, juice or wine, gather some elements and consider these thoughts: At the last supper, Jesus said to continue to eat this meal and remember his glory that came from his sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection. As you eat your meal, glorify Jesus’ name.

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.” (prayer from Jesus in John 17:1)
